Items to consider if your embroidery machine is breaking needles.
Your needle is installed incorrectly- Make sure the flat of the shank it point to the rear of the embroidery machine.
Check to make sure the screw for the needle is tightened – push needle up and make sure it is seated correctly.
Your needle is turned seated with the flat shank to the front or bent
Confirm you are using the correct machine embroidery needle. Most common for home embroidery machine needles are: Flat shank 75/11
If your machine is a combination Embroidrey/Sewing machine – you will want to confirm you have the embroidery foot installed vs the sewing foot.
Upper Thread tension is too tight. You will want to confirm the thread is not catching on the spool cover, and that all tension disks are threaded correctly. i.e make sure the presser foot is raised while threading.
Confirm your spool of embroidery thread is not set incorrectly on the spool holder and you are using the correct spool cover.
Confirm the bobbin is seated correctly.
The digitized file has too many short stitches – THIS IS MORE COMMON THAN NOT.

:::: The NUMBER one cause of upper thread breaks: is using the wrong spool cover on their single needle embroidery machines. The thread gets hung up causing too much tension and breaks and shreds while trying to stitch out their embroidery file.
I can not say this enough or loud enough. This is based on me answering this questions and seeing the results of 30k embroidery machine users having the same issue.
After checking the Number 1 issue for shredding and breaking, check to make sure you have threaded your machine hitting all the of the tension disks and thread paths. Make sure you presser foot is raised when threading.
Here are some additional items you may want to check:
Knotted or tangled embroidery thread is being used:
Wrong embroidery needle is being used:
Needle is turned (flat part of the shank to the back):
Needle is bent or dull:
There are scratches around the opening of the needle plate:
Wrong bobbin is being used for the embroidery machine. Check your embroidery machine manual to confirm you are using the correct bobbin for your machine:
