Unzip2Stitch combines a searchable design library with lettering using supported individual stitch-file alphabets, such as PES or JEF. Your alphabet can come from any digitizer who supplies a supported stitch-file format. BX files can be cataloged only; Unzip2Stitch cannot use BX files for typing, previewing, or stitching. If your font purchase includes both BX and individual stitch files, use the supported stitch-file copy for lettering.

Other names you’ll hear

Machine brands offer their own programs (for example Brother PE-Design and Janome Artistic), and there are independent editing and digitizing suites such as Hatch and Embrilliance. Compare what each one exports, whether it’s a one-time purchase or a subscription, and whether it fixes the problems you actually have.

Do you need digitizing software?

Probably not yet. Digitizing is a skill that takes months to learn, and a poorly digitized file wastes thread, blanks and time. For logos and custom artwork, a hand-digitized file is faster and sews better.

Software questions beginners ask

Do I need embroidery software to get started?

No. You can stitch purchased designs straight from a USB stick. Software becomes useful when you want to add names, combine designs, convert formats or keep a growing design library organized.

Is there free embroidery software?

Yes. Most machine brands have free apps for viewing and sending designs, and some programs offer free lettering or basic editing. Free tools are a good way to learn what you actually need before you buy.

Can I edit a PES or DST file?

With editing software you can recolor, combine, move, add lettering and make small size changes. Changing the stitches themselves (reshaping, fixing density) takes digitizing software or a digitizer.

Can software convert a design to my machine’s format?

Yes. Most editing programs export to the common formats (PES, DST, EXP, JEF, VP3 and more). The stitches stay the same, so a well-made design converts cleanly.

Can I resize a design in software?

A little – usually about 10-20%. Bigger changes need the design re-digitized so the stitches still sew well at the new size.

Can I use regular computer fonts?

Regular fonts aren’t made for stitching and often sew poorly, especially small. Embroidery fonts are pre-digitized alphabets built to sew cleanly.

What’s the easiest way to organize thousands of designs?

Should I try auto-digitizing?

For very simple shapes it can work, but logos, lettering and detailed art usually sew poorly. Most beginners get better results – and save thread and time – by having artwork hand-digitized.
